“The Lord God made garments of animal skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.”
- Genesis 3:21
This verse has weighed on me today.
It always seemed arbitrary until I sat in the context, the reality that this is God’s immediate response to having his heart broken.
(Like seriously, it's the next paragraph.)
Adam and Eve betrayed him, exposed themselves to danger, darkness. He faithfully covered them up.
Thousands of years later (and make no mistake, that time was full of heartbreak), Jesus died to cover all of us up.
If someone hurt me that deeply, could I prioritize their safety and comfort over the pain they caused?
Could I sacrifice my well-being, even my life so that my betrayer could live?
How could anyone love so selflessly?
Unfathomable.
